1.5 Million People Are Missing Out
An estimated 1.5 million people in the UK are entitled to an NHS-funded home eye test — and most simply don't receive one because they or their families are unaware the service exists. For older adults, this silence is dangerous. Glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration show no early symptoms — but they are detectable in a routine eye examination. Left unchecked, they cause irreversible, preventable sight loss. Poor vision doesn't just affect sight. It's directly linked to increased falls, social isolation, depression, and loss of independence. An up-to-date prescription can change everything — and for those who cannot travel, a home visit is the only clinical pathway to that care. You don't have to be one of the 1.5 million.
Glaucoma — The Silent Thief
Glaucoma occurs slowly which can over time reduce field of vision. a routine eye test is necessary to pick up the pathology early before vision has reduced permanently.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is a serious, often asymptomatic, complication of Type 1 or 2 diabetes where high blood sugar damages retinal blood vessels, Uncontrolled Diabetes can lead to fluctuating vision.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a slow progressive eye disease and can be age related .Early diagnosis can help symptoms with expert advice from a qualified optometrist . Discussing options that can help slow down the progression.
Falls & Loss of Independence
Uncorrected vision is one of the biggest contributors to falls in over-65s — often more than mobility issues alone.
What patients and families have to say:
My mother hasn’t been able to leave the house in two years. The optometrist was kind, patient, and thoroughly professional. Mum’s new glasses have genuinely transformed her quality of life — she can watch television again without struggling.

Questions We Get Asked Most
check out the common queries about our service and support.
Absolutely. Most of our appointments are arranged by family members, carers, or care home staff. Simply contact us with the patient’s details and we will guide you through the process, including eligibility checks and consent where required. You don’t need to be in the same room as the patient to get started.
The NHS recommends a test at least every two years for adults, and annually for those with conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, or a family history of eye disease. For adults over 65, annual checks are often clinically appropriate given the increased risk of age-related conditions. Many of our patients have gone years without a test — it’s never too late to start.
Common signs include headaches after reading, holding printed material further away, difficulty watching television, increased tripping or falling, or noticing one eye feels weaker than the other. Changes are often gradual and easy to dismiss — especially in older adults. If you notice any of these signs, an examination is advisable.
Yes. We work directly with care homes and sheltered accommodation providers, scheduling visits to suit staff and residents alike. We can see multiple residents in a single session, and we handle all NHS paperwork. Care home residents’ glasses are engraved with their name and room number to prevent loss.
